Saying Goodbye to Gymbox

Gymbox isn’t just a gym, it is a community. Its a place to be your best, work hard, play hard and get results.

A year and half ago my self confidence was at a all time low. My career was going no where, as an actress, you have to be fat or skinny, there isn’t an in-between in the industry and I was in-between.  I didn’t feel attractive, had no social life and there was no romance to speak of.  So I decided that there was only one thing I could do!  It was time to get skinny, because skinny equals happiness? Isn’t that right?

No it isn’t, strong, fit and healthy equals happiness and it looks different on every person.

I plodded along for a few weeks, not taking full advantage of what Gymbox had to offer. Then out of the blue I  got an email from one of the Personal Trainers offering my free personal training session, you get one when you join, so I thought, ‘what the hell’.

That session killed me! Seriously I am writing this from the grave, it was that kick arse. It made me realise that what I called HIIT wasn’t anywhere close to HIIT! Something changed that day. I pushed hard and I could do it! I COULD DO IT!

I signed up for sessions twice a month. Once he knew I was committed to my workouts he put me on a three week meal plan. I am not going to lie, I hated it! I haven’t been able to eat spinach since. But it had all the micro and macro nutrients I needed. It opened my eyes to how food affects our body and mind. That realisation ignited a new passion which put me on a new path. It is actually my first week of university where I am studying nutrition.

I started taking part in the group classed and oh man, they are fun!  The trainers at gymbox are great, they are there to see you improve, not just hit you up for sessions and then ignore you when you say no.

I box, I sprint, I do burpee, lift heavy and attempt to climb up frames. I no longer hate my body but love what it is capable of. Which is all thanks to Gymbox Farringdon and the trainers there.

I have a new career path, confidence, a great social life and… no still no romance, we cannot have everything.

If you are wondering what gym to join, then I fully recommend Gymbox, sadly as a new student I cannot afford a gym membership and will be saying goodbye for now but not forever.

I want to give a few shout outs to some of the trainers who made me better, stronger and helped me have fun!

Adding in as I forgot to mention how friendly and awesome the reception staff are!

Noel Callan my VPT, he introduced me to boxing and helped me become stronger and fitter. He kicked my arse with some fun HIIT workouts. He also picked up on my competitive nature and tailor workouts that made me push harder, want to be better and get my gains!

Francis Bramble, Metcon workouts were one of the hardest things I’ve ever done but he made it fun. It is also the little things, he remembers everyone name in his classes and would always check if my asthma was okay when we were pushing hard.

George Edwards Frame Fitness classes are amazing. I think it was the 4th or 5th class that I finally finished without wanting to throw up. He pushes you through motivation to get the best out of you. I love how big he is on technique which is perfect for when you go away and do your own workouts.

Clare Walters, spin class is amazing! I only took it once but by God, it was amazing! One of the hardest spin session. I have no idea how I did a boxing class after!

Firas Iskandarani Bikes and Beats was my Monday motivator for the rest of the week. I had the best time rocking out to some tunes, while sweating my arse off.

Sander Sanvee doesn’t work there anymore but his Gaines class helped me fall in love with weightlifting. His class workouts were fun and I always knew I would have an amazing session.

Also the people that train there are friendly, supportive and I’ve even made a friend for life.

I have two more weeks left of my membership and then I will sadly be waving goodbye.
